The Westgate Practice - Services
The practice has many exciting and extended services available to patients:
Travel Advice and Immunisations Including Yellow Fever
If you require advice about vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to complete and submit the online form (it can be printed off and dropped in at the surgery) which the practice nurse will then assess to see if you require any vaccinations. Please fully complete the form to include which countries and areas you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. The practice will then contact you to advise if you need an appointment with the nurse. It is important to complete this form as early as possible - at least 8 weeks before you travel - as an appointment will be required with a practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. Vaccinations are recommended for those at occupational risk (e.g. health care workers), for long stays or frequent travel to medium or high risk areas, for those more likely to be exposed such as children and those who may need surgical procedures. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine and there may be a charge over and above the normal prescription fee. Your appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Anti Coagulation (Warfarin) Clinic
These in-house clinics are to monitor and support patients on Warfarin. The clinic takes place at Greenhill Health Centre every Monday & Thursday. It is a simple thumb prick and your Warfarin dose is determined there and then.
Please contact the surgery on 01543 416633 if you would like to be seen at our in-house clinic.
Please see link below to the anti-coagulation survey that we are encouraging patients and families who both use and are affected by this service to complete.
The survey will remain open until 11 October 2019.
Extended Hours Surgeries
This service may be particularly suitable for those who find it difficult to attend during normal surgery hours. On Mondays and Wednesdays we offer late evening surgeries and some Friday evening and Saturday morning appointments at Greenhill Health Centre with members of the medical team; these appointments need to be pre booked.
Child Immunisation Clinics
It is important to keep your child's vaccinations up to date; clinics are held at Greenhill each Tuesday & Wednesday morning for child immunisations. Tuesday morning is for older children aged 12 months to 3 1/2 years these appointments are to be booked by parents, a reminder letter will be sent to you when your child is due to attend. The Wednesday clinic is for babies having their first primary immunisations and 8 week checks. These appointments are sent to parents from Staffordshire Child Health Immunisation Service.
We encourage parents where possible to bring their children to the designated clinics as we have 2 qualified nurses in each clinic to ensure/maximise safety when administering vaccines to small children. We can however accommodate immunisations at other times if parents are unable to attend the clinics.
If you have any questions about childhood vaccinations please contact the practice.
This service is available to patients with certain skin problems such as warts. Appointments can be arranged through your doctor.
